Chuck . . . I play racquetball with a good friend of yours, Mike Williams. Mike told me some very interesting stories about yourself and him. Mike is really a great guy with a warm personality. He has the utmost respect for you. We talked for several minutes about his relationship with you which was very interesting. I am a baseball nut so I enjoyed listening to Mike and his stories about you very much.
I wish you the very best in this upcoming season.
I would love to hear back from you if possible.
Warmest regards, Jim Candela

Chuck:
I was fortunate enough to meet you and John Higgins at East Field in Glens Falls, New York, in the early 1980′s, before a Glens Falls White Sox Eastern League game. I have followed your career and seen you umpire a few times in person at the major league level. The time that you and John gave me talking about umpiring and umpiring school was very much appreciated. Although I chose to become a coach, I remain a big fan of umpires, the job they do, the responsibility they have, and the dedication they possess. I recently read that your retirement was due to a hip injury. I myself have gone through 5 total hip replacements and a double knee replacement. If that is what you are headed toward, you need not have any anxiety. I would recommend you go to the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota. My older brother needed a total hip, went there, has only a 4-inch incision on his hip, and required no special exercises to rehab the hip. I would be happy to speak with you about hip surgery if you would like.
Sincerely,
Pete Puricelli
